Night and Day; Digital design & Illustrations

As the easter break is nearly over, I have been glued to the computer screen today to try and finish my digitally produced designs ready for printing next week. I needed to start looking the pattern on the garment, these are my first few illustrations to show how it might look. My illustrations are half drawn by hand and edited in illustrator and photoshop. I have included some design developments afterwards. These show the colours that are suitable for the high street (summer2013), as all of my designs for this project the initial drawing is from my sketchbook and then translated into digital designs.

Easter; Egg Chicks

This is a funny idea that I picked up on pinterest.com. The basic structure is a hard boiled egg with the yolk taken out, mashed up and put back in. Cutting off the top of the egg creates a small head. And the eyes and nose are placed in the yolk   :)

The Kaleidoscope Effect in Design

The Kaleidoscope Effect in Design

Design Development;

Lately I have been experimenting with scale, colour and motion in my work. I was inspired by a designer that came into uni to talk to us about using CAD effectively, specifically Ned Graphics and Adobe Illustrator. Whilst developing work with these programs I noticed I was losing the drawing style quality to my work, and therefore needed to bring a sense of texture and line back into my designs.
I have researched and developed my own work in relation to artists that use distortion, from the beginning of the project I have found this has worked well in my sketchbook and wanted to find a way to translate it into a digital design.
The Kaleidoscope effect can be created in a number of ways; these images are simply made in photoshop by cutting out a square, halving it into a triangle, then repeated 8 times round to make a square again.
All designs are developed from my own hand or cad drawings, two are made from light painting. An easy effect to create by setting a camera on a long shutter speed and drawing in the with a source of light.

NIGHT & DAY; design project

Night & Day

Hasn't February gone by quickly! As I haven't made any thing outside of uni this month I thought I would share some of my current textiles work.

Super short summary of my project so far:
The theme given to this project is 'Journey', I started by looked and observing my own day to day journey. Things that change such as my route to uni/town, and things that don't. An example I used for some that stays totally unique to me is my fingerprint.
I like the idea that life goes round in circles, in birth and death, in seasons, in patterns, or however you want to label it. I have sourced other influences to help me create two fashion collections for Summer 2013. Artists and designers researched so far include; MC Esher, Andy Goldsworthy, Henri Matisse, Mara Hoffman, Chloe, Hadley Holliday.

Knitted Winter Headband

Knitted Winter Headband:

Here is a just a step to step guide of how I created the headband in images.
Im not sure why but I always end up using things to knit with instead finding my knitting needles. I made a wide knitted line to start of with just for decoration, also so I know which way round to wear it. The pattern is Purl - 1, Knit - 2 (x 60), pretty simple but looks cute! Might knit a flower to go on the top.
