Photography Final Year Project; Wrath and Happiness

Photography; final year project

Seven Deadly Sins; Wrath
Emotion; Happiness
Models: Hattie Adams, Aamir Osman

I decided that wrath would be the main subject for deciding on colours
and style. Red is the colour most common with wrath and anger, two things are red in the
photographs, blood and light. I wanted something extra to give my photographs an edge,
light painting was an effective way to make my images stand out and more creative. It is
achieved by setting the camera on a long shutter speed, then painting shapes in the air
with a source of light. The camera catches a trail of light in the direction it was moved, I
used a wind up torch for these photographs.
Happiness is reflected by two simple things inspired from images on deviant art, nature
and flowers. The flowers are not obvious straight away, the white daises on the floor match
the ring of artificial flowers around her head. These symbolize happiness. I specifically
chose a park as the location of the photo shoot, green grass and blue sunny sky bring a
lightness to the images. The trees behind however look dark and sinister, creating the right
atmosphere for my photographs. I positioned the models for most of the photos with the
sun directly on the side of them, I used a reflector to bounce the light onto the other side of
their face. One photo in particular the sun is behind her creating a halo type effect on her
blonde hair.

The clothes she is wearing are inspired by my fashion photography research. The colour
black has many meanings in the fashion world, it can be used to portray power, elegance,
luxury, secretive and mysterious. I used it to to create strong body shapes, strength,
dominance and a hint of glamour.
