Oxjam; photos

Her Campus magazine from the University of Leeds set up a night of music to support Oxfam, gigs are put on all around the UK to raise money for the charity. I volunteered to help photograph the performers of the evening with another student from the uni. The night was a fantastic success and I look forward to helping out at more magazine events.

Penguin costume

A dance-movie themed pub crawl.. naturally I picked Happy feet for inspiration! Dressing up as a penguin was a challenge but fun, most people understood what I was...

First, I headed down to primark to get the basic garments; white top/playsuit, waistcoat, gloves and leggings.
Next the market for the embellishments; ribbon, feather boa, tail/black material.

I sewed the feather boa onto the edges of the waistcoat...

then round the arm holes.
I used the remainder of the feather boa to wrap round my ankles, and the furry leg warmers I made for a previous outfit I put round my feet. Ignore my slippers.
The tail was trial and error, it is a square of black material folded in half, I ended up tucking it into a belt to get this effect:

I googled penguins and came up with this for the make-up..

Added long black gloves that was it! Penguin done.

Cat/Lion Costume

EASIEST COSTUME EVER!!

You can make this more black (cat-like), or golden, like a lion.
If you go to the University of Leeds there is one thing that is a MUST before you graduate, a fancy dress Otley run! It is a pub crawl down a long road which seems to be get shorter the more you drink.

Here are the basic fur parts to my outfit:

The sewing part -
Remember to set up your sewing machine at the beginning!
1. I bought 2 meters of golden fur from Leeds market and a headband
2. I measured the length round my ankles and wrists
3. Sewed the four pieces of fabric into cylinder shapes, two for hands and two for the feet.
4. Cut and sewing two small cones for the headband
5. To wear: add black leggings and leotard..

Make-up -
1. Smother your face in orange foundation
2. Add lots of bronzer to the cheekbones
3. Using eyeliner, outline your eyes with a thick line that extends down to your nose
4. Also use the eyeliner to add a cute cat nose and whiskers if you like
5. Don't forget mascara!

Hair -
Not any steps for this really, I just left my fringe down and back-combed my hair until it looked I had crawled through a hedge 100 times.

Hope you had a great birthday Lucy!

Leeds Dancesport give it a go

As I am on the dance committee this year I will be helping out at three give it a go sessions. This is basically a two hour event showing demos of the cha, jive and waltz from different levels, then a short lesson teaching newcomers the basic steps of each three dances. Phil, our dance teacher, then lets everyone try it out to music. Hopefully people enjoy this lesson and come back to join the dance society. I have done ballroom and latin for a year so I am progressing to novice from beginner now, I have just about got the novice cha cha we did last week but as the joint social sec with Emily, I am glad the main thing we have to worry about is where we take our society on a saturday night.
Anyway, these are some photos from the last 2 tuesday sessions...
